ein astronaut

Today I’m here to tell you about my neighbor, Eike. He’s a very talented musician and his band is called ein astronaut.

He’s a bit of a one-man-band, a jack-of-all trades…I don’t know how many instruments he plays but he certainly has a lot of music equipment, instruments and other gadgets necessary for playing and recording great music. We saw him play for the first time in September at the Reeperbahn Festival and we really enjoyed ourselves!

The cool thing is that he also does collaborations with many other people from all over the world, who then record their pieces of the music and he stitches them together into movies like the one below. He calls them VideoSongs. It’s such an interesting idea and of course it allows him to work with other very talented people to work together to create some beautiful music. So at the festival there was a big screen behind him that allowed him to show the VideoSongs while he played.

It’s hard to pick one favorite to share with you all, because I really love all of the songs. (It’s one of those CDs you can just play on repeat and be totally content for a whole afternoon!) But this one he sang at the Reeperbahn Festival was particularly cool – he sang into a vintage walkie-talkie and put the other one up to the microphone, which was quite a cool effect!

His musical style is pretty chill which is no surprise, considering he’s the most relaxed person I’ve ever met. He and his little family are all really nice, too. They live on the ground floor and also loaned us a lot of lawn furniture for our Standesamt wedding reception in the backyard. They have a young son and just had a new baby, too. Super sweet! And I’ve become a big fan of his work, and I think you should, too!

So go check it out! You can download his music here and watch more videos on ein astronaut’s youtube channel.
