Laughs

Theo has reached another milestone: laughing. He still doesn’t do it all that often yet, which is why I also have yet to capture it on camera, but it’s getting to be more and more! Let me tell you — it is one of the best feelings in the world!

His first laugh happened when he was 12 weeks and 1 day old. We were at a wedding in Bielefeld (more on that later) and I don’t even remember what we did to make him laugh, but he did. We actually looked at each other and were so surprised, we almost thought it didn’t happen. (It did!) His very first time laughing!

He then didn’t laugh again for another week, the day we traveled to Berlin for the weekend to apply for his passport and make his American citizenship official. (More on that later, too!) I can’t wait for his first giggle fest…it’s going to be so wonderful!

Side note on laughing — Germans say the word “lachen” for babies smiling (lächeln), instead of laughing. It’s honestly kind of confusing, because nobody ever says the baby is smiling – they say he’s laughing. So what do they say when he actually laughs?

3 months old

He also turned 3 months old this past Saturday. For his 3 month picture, we dressed him up in some vintage clothes we found in his grandparents’ attic. We had quite some work to do, going through old toys and sorting through what we wanted to keep and what we wanted to give away. But we found this cute one-piece that says “yacht club” on it. Tobias must certainly have worn it at some point. It’s not very practical for diaper changes, since there are no snaps at the bottom. And it won’t fit him much longer. But it was cute anyway.
